Property for Sale With or Without the Business
Hiawatha's was established December 9, 1978. Since its opening, we have been guided by products we like, but mostly what our customers and it is now time to retire and relax. If you are interested or know anyone interested, read below and call 304 881 3824. e-mail bobincrw@yahoo.com
Inside this 5200-square-foot building, which contains Hiawatha's store and offices, is a 2-bedroom apartment which includes a living room/dining room, a small kitchen , bath and shower, and two storage rooms. Also, at the east end of the building is a 20'x25' rental location with a private glass-door entrance. At this time, it is being used for additional storage.
Hiawatha's is located at the intersection of US Routes 219-250 South and 33 East, the busiest corner in Elkins. the corner of one of the most traveled intersections in Elkins, West Virginia. Located on US 33 at the east side of the building is a Gas station/Convenience store (open 24 hours) and on the west side is the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce. Across the street on opposite corners are McDonald's and Kroger (grocery/gas/pharmacy). Directly across the street on the north side of US 33 is the historic Kump Family Home.
This would make a great family business. However, Hiawatha's has 4 well-trained, dedicated, part-time employees, (2 who have been with us for 20 years) who may want to continue to work.
See photos and links at bottom of page.
Hiawatha's will continue to be open until it is sold.
Please stop by when you're in Elkins
This is not your "usual" store.
Begin your Elkins adventure at Hiawatha's, a specialty store,
which is a destination within itself.
Some visitors spend several hours looking at the many unusal items.
Many items are handcrafted by Native Americans from the Southwest,
North Carolina, and Canada. Available are quivers, arrows, peace pipes, pottery
silver and turquoise jewelry, dream catchers, and many unique decorative wall items.
Many are one-of-a-kind pieces, such as the Sioux pottery,
which is made from the red clay of the Black Hills of South Dakota
and a fine white clay from Kentucky.
Each piece is designed, handcrafted, and decorated
with designs and symbols important to their culture
and is signed by the artist who created it.
No two pieces are exactly the alike.
"Story Gourds" are handcrafted in the Central Highlands of Peru near Huancayo.
Each gourd is hand carved by using a sharp nail,
set into a piece of broom handle
which is then expertly guided by the hand of the artisan
who learned the craft from his or her ancestors.
Each gourd tells an interesting story in pictures of Peruvian rural life.
"Weavings" by the Salasaca Indians make beautiful wall hangings.
These Indians are located about three hours south of Quito, Ecuador.
They raise sheep, sheer the fleece, dye the wool, spin the thread,
and weave the final product. Their weavings are beautifully colored.
They depict mythical birds, animals of the Galapagos,
other birds of the Andes, plus typical scenes of the area.
Weaving is done of the reverse side of the loom,
meaning that they work on the weaving from the back.
"Collectible Knives" come from Montana.
The handles are painstakingly painted and engraved
and many are mounted on animal statuary.
"Wildlife Figurines" adorn the store.
"Native American Music" comes alive as you shop.
Music is available by artists such as Joanne Shenandoah,
R. Carlos Nakai, John Two-Hawks, Alice Gomez, and others.
"Minnetonka Moccasins" are available for the whole family
and are one of the most popular of our many products.
"Justin, Dan Post, Smoky Mountain, and Durango boots"
are popular to go along with the "Outback Oilskin Dusters and Hats."
Capture the spirit of the "Old West" with western shirts, hats, boots,
and beaded fringe jackets.
Choose a wallet, belt, buckle and some irresistable men's cologne.
A good selection of quality sterling silver, turquoise and copper jewelry
is found here, along with the popular "Annie Oakley" fragrances for the gals.
Those of us who are experiencing "growing pains" will enjoy some
pain-relief formulas by Amish Origins, Nuwati, and Badger.
Add some copper or copper-magnetic or hemitite jewelry
and you've just GOT to feel good!
Educational children's books (we like to read them ourselves)
include a variety of titles, many involving Native American culture
and others involve historical documents.
